Are Ontario tenants required to have liability insurance?
Tenant insurance – which includes liability insurance – isn’t mandated by law in Ontario. But, it’s in your best interest to have it.
The liability coverage included in a tenant policy takes care of legal costs if you’re sued for a couple of reasons. The first is if you accidentally injure someone – like if you break someone’s teeth with a baseball during a baseball game and they sue you for medical costs. It also kicks in if you accidentally damage someone else’s property.
